Opening doors

Together with a cross-section of DPC II alumni, Sophie Bourdon explained the benefits of attending the next 3-day DPC II training workshop in Amsterdam (commencing 28 November) to potential applicants during Locarno’s Open Doors forum on training initiatives and industry days (Aug 4-6). Networking and one-to-one meetings were the order of the day in Locarno as the intensive DPC II workshop programme was introduced and discussed, and the need for ‘good prep prior to post’ was underlined again and again.

This came hot on the heels of Sophie’s participation at La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde industry meeting in Cannes where she met with productions teams as geographically diverse as Malaysia, Kenya, Mali, Lebanon and Cuba, most of whom were very enthusiastic about the DPC II workshop and its offer to the production industry.

“I enjoy meeting filmmakers and producers at festivals on a one-to-one basis because I can focus conversations on specific projects in development and can thus better and more concretely explain how the challenges they are facing can be addressed and discussed with experts at the DPC II workshop,” Sophie explains. “This is the most effective promotional approach, in my opinion, and it is also beneficial to project holders to discuss workflow issues while they are participating in a co-production platform.”
